The 1st Annual Larpy Awards-The Larpy Awards makes its debut
(English Fantasy, Fun and Games, another realm) “I love
the Brits’ Shakespeare but this was far from the Bard.”

A
new award show made its debut in Hollywood over the weekend,
April 30th called The Larpy Awards. What is a Larpy? I wanted
to know. Never heard of it. Well if you love sword and sorcerer
type fun, games and films, that’s what it represents.
The word Larpy means, Live Action Role Playing, games medieval
style where you dress up and apply make-up with prosthetics
and other type of special effects to look like Lancelot or
an elf or orc, monster, gigantic sorceress or damsel in distress,
If you love video games and have ever played Nero with myriad
cultures and kingdoms that should paint the picture. Okay,
I think you get it. The Larpy Awards is definitely a nouveau
concept to hit La La land, but with all the fantasy films
out there under the Spielberg banner you would have thought
he would have been the author of this marvelous award show
display.

Drinking from the Bishop Don Magic Juan's cup at his CD release
party transformed Freelance Writer/Publicist Eugenia Wright
aka The kleopatragirl from good to bad to reciting her Hail
Mary's by the end of the night.
When I arrived on the scene at the Avalon club an appropriate
setting for the show since it is named for Avalon, a mythical
fantasy island off the British isles where one would expect
to see “Larpies” fighting colossus, I encountered
a clan of sword fighters wearing helmets, chest plates, practicing
their moves in front of the parking lot. Sorry to spoil their
fun, but I had to beep to get through, to park the car. Nymphs
were running around with fairy silky sheer flowing garments.
Welcome to Larpy land. Okay, so where are my peeps.
I
heard Lil' Max$o was on the bill, so let’s get the party
started on some turf that I can understand. To my amazement,
I found Lil' Max$o standing next to a blonde Battle Amazon
who stood 7 feet tall or close to it dressed in a leather
strapped outfit with leather boots that laced up to her knees.
Oh my Lord, then she picked up the teeny tiny hip hopper and
put him on her shoulder like he would make a great appetizer.
Cris
Judd then whizzed right by me like he was late, probably was,
but the awards were late getting started also. Then the models
made their appearance, Bobbi Sue Luther, host of Maxim Online
and guest star of Star Trek: Enterprise where she played a
sexy green Orion Slave Woman, was the hostess of the Larpy
Awards, followed by the Trashy Lingerie girls. Soon after
many animated characters were showing off their costumes.
I thought it was Halloween. Then, the red carpet parted for
a moment of class as gorgeous Model/actress Kathleen Bradley
known to millions as one of the “Barker’s Beauty”
on the Price is Right sacheted on to the scene and everyone
just could not get enough of this photo opportunity. She was
a breath of fresh air and represented real Hollywood glam.
She told everyone that she’s ready to star in a new
film and the way she looked I’m sure the cameras are
ready for her. On the male side, handsome Jose Conseco caught
the eye of every woman. He was definitely the Latin hunk in
the house.
The
press was waiting for Adrien Brody but he was a no show. Didn’t
see Nikki Ziering either. I did run into actor, Ken Foree
in the lobby, hadn’t seen him since we both guest-starred
in Blue Thunder if anyone remembers that. Ken is a huge Larpy
celebrity since his starring roles in The Devil’s Rejects
and House of 1,000 Corpses along with Babylon 5.
Once
inside, I sat in the VIP area with the Vodka sponsors. Vodka
is great but I love Bailey’s. I had neither, just sipped
on water. The atmosphere was pretty wild just taking it in
sober was a hypnotic enough. The show was late, so I hob nobbed
with some friends, enjoyed the show. I didn’t know the
nominees. Between the floorshow, the stage show and the screen,
there was plenty to see. The Larpys was a new experience,
British fantasy fun. I love Brits’ Shakespeare actually,
but this was far from the Bard.
I
think I’ll have to go back next year and sit next to
the Vodka sponsor again and this time take him up on that
offer of a drink, to get the hang of it. I love fantasy; after
all I am the kleopatra girl! Realms and islands whose shores
bear glistening sand bejeweled with crowns and crownet ornaments
embellished with gold, white and black pearls from the sea
sipping on ginseng juice from goblets adorned with precious
stones, is my thing.
Alas,
I will have to abandoned those fineries and pull out the box
with frocks containing the black leather laced bustier, the
criss crossed boots with metallic, and chains with prosthetic
ears a la Dr. Spock, grab gargantua for an escort and go Larpy
style next time.
