ATLANTIS MUSIC CONFERENCE 2005
by Crackbabyz
Been there, done that! Notchu girl, notchu, let me get into my review!
It’s the top of 2006 and the CrackBabyz is starting off their reviews wit a gangsta twist. For all you aspiring musicians, singers, entertainers & American idol rejects, we’ve got the real deal right here for you.
August 2005, CrackBabyz went out to the dirty, dirty peace up A-town down south to check out the Atlantis Music Conference Festival and Event. We had to hit this event up because of its ever-growing credibility among artists and record heads to see for ourselves if talk was cheap. Ya damn wrong.
The Atlantis Music Conference was and is the aspiring artists true opportunity to show and perform, see and be seen, as well as make contacts throughout the hip hop music industry. It was so hot and poppin im gonna break it down for you crack babyz types in a step-by-step crackdown on the A- town stomp.
Upon arrival we were greeted by a sea of smiling Ataliean faces (hint hint) giving us a big bag of goodies such as free CDs, Magazines, Books, etc. Gentlemen, the ladies were in attendance heavily from early on. I stress you may want to book your hotel a couple days in advance and a couple nights late after the festival ends it will not hurt you.
Artist from around the country began coming in with their candy painted trucks and independent record label promotion to go with the 24's that were swimming. The hotel started to look like a music video, actually if you ain’t got the money to pay for extras that’s the perfect place to shoot your next music video. Cause there was plenty of groupie love to go around and you get catz from all over the country in your video that’s gone be like " Yo datz me in oh boys first video".
I can’t lie it was a long night the first night out ......... I didn’t make it to the early seminars and I'm still upset at myself for it. The seminars I did make it to were crazy. I'm sittin hollin at record heads, A&R, major producers, managers, and artists from all over the country. I’m getting advice from songwriters, singers, and promoters all there to answer questions and help a cat shine. There were managers & promoters there looking for quality acts to sign such as Dee Dee the high profile celebrity publicist from N.Y. who tries to pick up one unsigned artist a year to add to her roster and help promote to the industry.
Later on at night it was getem boy time everybody got in his or her flyest gear. I would say everybody went and took a shower but I walked by some catz from ....... nah I ain’t even gonna put it down like that but wherever they was from the soap and the wata needs ta be extended to the greater population. Like I was sayin we was droppin hangers poppin tags cause the ATL mall is off the sha-nall-nah-nah-what you know what I'm sayin? Aight, aight I don't think yall truely understand what I'm talkin about see I'm from the bay and we know how to put it down out there but in ATL the ATL Music Conference alone had like 3 o 4 clubs poppin at a time that was free to get in for everyone attending the conference. That ain’t including the 9 or 10 I was invited to just for being a slick character. I flew in from Italy so I ain’t had my spinners (plus I like to use the public transportation) but you might want ta bring dem spinners out with you cause ATL's underground system is slow and ATL is wide. But even on foot I was crackenem and once I got in the club after the sweat under my armpits dried up. shooooo ..... The girls were all over it.
I hit about every showcase my Nike airs could get me too. And this is where the Atlantis Music Conference stood out for me above and beyond some of the other showcases id been too. 1st off i had to go see the R&B vocal group from Atlanta everybody was talkin about WITHOUT a DOUBTthey had a ill club track that was makin the girls drop they draws called OKAY! It had the Lil John sample that killed it in the club they could dance sing & rap & the ladies lovedem so i couldnt wait until they got off the damn stage so i could get some attention. But thats the thing about the Atlantis Music Conference when you talk about talent! You’re talkin about the Atlantis Music Conference, when you’re talkin about showman ship! Your talkin about the Atlantis Music Conference, When your talkin about singers that can blow, performers that can dance, rappers that can flow, bands that can rock, when your talkin about newness, fresh joints, tracks that you wish was on the radio right now, your talkin about the ATL music conference. So don’t go out there thinking you the king cotton without your spit in the bucket 'cause you will get embarrassed. A great poet once said " Listen shortly I'm telling you this for your own good (Uhh) everybody is the man in they own hood, for real" circa 21st century, Dog Man X, Its On.
To top it off the conference held a listening party so you know a crack baby like myself was all over that. When I got there, there was like three dudes at a table with a radio just looking at me like show me, show me I was like ahh, man I don’t know what kind of games yall think you playin but I cant play witchu I just don’t get down like that I ain’t never been in prison. Then a Rapper from Alaska came through slid them his C.D. and they put it on and listened to his stuff right there. The three dudes were A&R and producers from different labels and I don’t know how the ATL music executives got them to sit and listen to this guys stuff. Cause it was wack but there they were listening and giving critiques to everyone that signed up for the critique session. Some fine girls came in and sang out of tune I thought they should have been signed right there on the spot. Then a group of rappers came in I thought they was wack too but all the A&R catz was feeling their stuff and they exchange contact numbers and business cards right there. Had me thinking about pulling out my ole 8 track recordings and showing how we really got it poppin!
By the end of the festival after meeting artists such as Mussiani one of the highly sought after rappers from South Carolina a country thats bubblin wit talent right now who had so many mixtapes on the streets the stores the radio had to start putten him in rotation. The one thing that was fo-sho was that if you’re an artist looking to make it in the music business today. Looking to go up against some of the top unsigned artists today. Looking to see where you’re at in the game on a national level instead of only battling your high school buddies at the local cona shop. Then the Atlanta Music Conference may be the place for you. It ain’t the place to go with high hopes of L.A. Ried seein you and signing you on the spot. It’s the place to go to meet with the right people about handling your independent business and promotion, about taking your performance and stage presence to another level.
Anyway the Atlantis Music Conference gets 7 out of 10 on my top 10 crackbabyz commandments pipe.
