Veteran rapper Ice Cube has spent much of the past
decade in Hollywood, masterminding the lucrative "Friday"
comedy franchise, and starring in unlikely hit movies like "Are
We There Yet?" Currently
juggling four film projects, including the recently announced "Welcome
Back Kotter," and recently premiered his controversial FX documentary,
"Black.White," in which black and white families are sent
into the world disguised as members of the opposite race. But after
a six-year hiatus without a new album, he's back with the self-released
"Laugh Now Cry Later," which arrived in stores June 6
and is off to a solid start.
Angelina Jolie's baby has her own website, Jolie who gave
birth last weekend, ordered aides to buy the website address ShilohNouvelJolie-Pitt.com.
Meanwhile, Hugh Hefner wants Angelina Jolie to
pose for Playboy even though she has just given birth. According
to British tabloids Hugh said: "I'm hoping to bump into Angelina
Jolie to get her to do Playboy after she's recovered from
having the baby."
The Morehouse School of Medicine is $3 million
richer thanks to the generous donation of comedian Bill
Cosby and his wife Camille. Morehouse officials said the
money, the largest individual gift given to the school, is meant
to honor its interim president, Dr. David Satcher, and will fund
the endowment of a chaired professorship in mental health. The donation
also honors Doctor Alvin Poussaint, a child psychiatrist at Harvard
Medical School who served as a script consultant to Cosby's former
NBC sitcom, "The Cosby Show."
Clint
Eastwood will receive the Founders Award from the Motion
Picture and Television Fund Golden Boot committee for his film-directing
legacy. The star has previously received the Golden Boot for his
acting career and is the second director to be honored with the
Founders Award following John Ford. The Golden Boot Awards were
established to recognize individuals who have furthered the Western
genre of films. Eastwood will receive the award at the committee's
24th annual award show on 12 August (06).
Wu-Tang
Clan's Method Man is scheduled to release his fourth solo
album, 4:21...The Day After, on July 25th. The album will feature
guest appearances by Fat Joe and Styles
P, with production by Dr. Dre, Scott
Storch, and RZA. SOHH.com reports that
the rapper will give fans a chance to hear a new song every week
until the album's release on the Def Jam Records website
Rapper
Fabolous has made the move into the world of fashion.
Allhiphop.com reports that he recently launched his Ric Yung clothing
line. The rapper explained, "It's the hottest s- -t in a minute.
If anybody likes the classic Polo from back in the days, this is
about to be a new Polo for the Hip-Hop World... I've always been
a fashionable person, even before becoming a rapper. There are a
lot of opportunities out there for us, and I've done a lot of advertising
things for Sean Jean, Akademiks, Reebok -- you name it. It finally
came to a point where I said, 'You know what? I should do my own
line.'" Ric Yung is currently available in select boutiques
in New York City. The line will be launched nationally later this
year.
In
celebration of Black Music Month, Chevrolet has
launched a new campaign paying tribute to Ray Charles,
Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez and Jam
Master Jay. The campaign features musicians that have passed
on, but whose spirits live on in the youth of today
50
Cent will headline the Red Stripe Reggae Summerfest in
Jamaica.
Jim
Carrey’s latest film “Ripley’s Believe
it or not” has reportedly been postponed for at least a year
after the film's budget passed $150 million. This is Carrey's second
film in the last few weeks to be postponed because of massive budget
over-spending. Last week, it was announced his movie “Used
Guys” with Ben Stiller was being halted after
the budget reached $112 million. Entertainment newspaper Variety
reports Paramount Pictures unexpectedly decided to postpone production
on Ripley, but studio executives insist they are still moving forward.
Tupac
Shakur’s mother Afeni and the Tupac Amaru Shakur
Foundation have announced the Tupac Legacy Tour, which will feature
a line-up of top artists performing songs from the late rapper's
catalogue. The 25-date US tour marks the 10th anniversary of the
rapper's death, and will kick off in Los Angeles later this year.
The event will be sponsored by the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation
and A+M Entertainment, with a share of the proceeds going to the
Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts (TASCA) located in Stone
Mountain, Georgia.

Supermodel Linda Evangelista is pregnant with her
first child. The 41-year-old is dating an unnamed New York City
architect and was unable to hide her growing baby bump at a party
in Madrid, Spain, last week. The Canadian tells German magazine
Gala, "I'm overjoyed. My baby gives my life a meaning."
Rapper
DMX has confirmed he is making a sequel to his
cult hip-hop film “Belly”. “Beast” will
follow on directly from the 1998 film which marked Hype
Williams’ directorial debut, and will also star rapper
Nas who appeared in Belly. DMX tells AllHipHop.com, "It's me,
Nas and Hype. I go and get (Nas' character in Africa).
We start filming this year. "We got a sick story and all that.
We're starting this one off how the last one ended and pick it up
from there." A release date for the sequel is yet to be confirmed.
US
network VH1 is launching a reality talent competition to find the
next Eminem. The cable network is creating “Egotrip
presents The White Rapper Show”, a comedic reality series
that will test the rap skills and urban knowledge of 12 aspiring
white hip-hop artists. White rap legend Michael “MC
Search” Berrin will host the show. Contestants will
live together in the South Bronx section of New York City and participate
in a series of challenges to test their music talent and ability
to mesh with black culture.
